BRIEF 13: DEFINE - Concept #2

For idea two Lisa decided to take on board aspect that worked from the first initial concept and also include aspects that both myself and Tom felt were missing. The first concept was very bold and masculine. This time I decided to focus on the waves of light and how light travels. Using much more fun and vibrant colours throughout the design and also considering what will printing using CMYK. As there is a low budget for this brief, there will be no accessibility to spot colours, varnishes and foils and this was a major consideration throughout the design process for myself and Lisa.

With this brief we used gradients as a focus (taken from concept 1) as this ties in with the movement of light. The waves represent the light wave itself and the typeface is much more elegant and sleek. This gives are more expensive feel that the original typeface sued in concept one. We also decided to use a black background as opposed to a white tone. This represents that the event takes place at night, in winter. It also allows the waves of light to become more dominant and stand out.

There is much more colour used throughout this design and also initially Lisa wanted to bring in more colour as the first concept seemed bland, we feel as though this appears to have less consistency and in this case having such varying colours does not work. Maybe it would be better to have colours from the same family changing, or use the same colours but have different consistency of colour within each gradient meaning in some there could be more green than blue and vice versa on others. Within Idea three we think we want to have a diverse range of colour yet these need to be much stronger and more bold. The concept needs to have an identity that is consistent yet can still adapt to the changing themes year on year. We could possibly produce a typeface or type specimen that would allow for this and allow for varying designs that demonstrate consistency.
